Yesterday was the opening day of the embezzlement trial for Karen Sue Ellen Neff.

She and her husband are accused of taking money from the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Flanagan old the court deputies were able to trace $282,000 back to Karen Neff and her husband Keith Baratie.

Their charges include: forgery, theft and secure writings by deception.

The couple was associated with the Memorial Park Association, but the state says they had no formal positions.

Meanwhile, Defense Attorney John Jurco told the court Baratie was the caretaker and Neff had a lesser role.

The trial will resume today.
