The Steubenville Revitalization Group is encouraging area businesses, nonprofits and professionals to make sure the “appropriate state authorities” know what they think about a proposal to reopen a landfill just outside city limits.

Those who’d like to comment should submit their thoughts, on paper, to the SRG, which will make sure the information gets to the powers-that-be, the organization said.

New York-based Greenway Reclamation has proposed reopening the old Crossridge Landfill, correcting legacy environmental issues there and accepting out-of-state baled solid wastes, but it’s met with stiff opposition from local leaders as well as private residents who say it’s much too close to Steubenville, Wintersville and Mingo Junction.

In a press release Saturday, SRG said it wants to make sure state and federal lawmakers “and the bureaucrats involved in the decision making process” understand how locals feel about the idea.

Those interested in joining the fight can email their thoughts to [email protected] steubenvillesrg.com or mail a hard copy to Steubenville Revitalization Group, P.O. Box 602 Steubenville, OH 43952.
