A Mingo Junction man is behind bars after shoplifting at Walmart and attempting to elude police.

Police say 32-year-old Daniel J. Everhart stole more than $573 worth of jewelry and $1,488 worth of household merchandise from the Steubenville Walmart just before 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to a police report, Everhart broke into a jewelry case and left the store without paying.

Police then located Everhart’s vehicle, and when they attempted to stop him, he tried to elude the police at a low rate of speed.

Officers were able to subdue Everhart in the parking lot of Rural King.

Everhart is now behind bars facing several charges, including a felony count of theft, criminal mischief, driving under suspension, and fleeing and eluding.
