State Rep. Jack Cera (D-Bellaire) announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 276, which designates the portion of State Route 152 between County Road 56 and Township Road 249 as “Private First Class George Dennis McClelland Memorial Highway.”
HB 276 includes provisions to rename 21 memorial highways and bridges throughout the state. The designation of the road in Jefferson County was originally proposed by Cera in HB 53, but was made a part of the larger bipartisan omnibus bill.
PFC George Dennis McClelland served in Vietnam as part of “A” Company of the 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Marine division. He was killed in action in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam on June 23, 1969 at the age of 20.
The bill now moves to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk for final approval. The honorary renaming will be codified in the Ohio Revised Code and made effective 90 days from the date of the governor’s signature.
