A vehicle driving on Route 2 in Hancock County left the roadway and crashed approximately 35 feet down a hillside in Weirton.
The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wall Street.
A white Buick Encore SUV was traveling northbound on Route 2 when it exited the right side of the roadway.
The vehicle traveled through the guard rail and was airborne for a few moments as it fell down an approximately 35-foot hillside before landing on its roof. Driving the vehicle was a woman in her 50s.
It took approximately 30 minutes for rescue workers to bring the woman up from the embankment. She was taken to a nearby hospital by a medical helicopter.
Route 2 was partially closed as the medical helicopter was at the scene. The cause of the accident and the condition of the driver remains unclear at this time.
