A fire sparked inside of a Jefferson County garage, summoning firefighters from several area departments.

Emergency responders from Brilliant and New Alexandria responded to the call that came in around 11 p.m. Wednesday evening.

When firefighters arrived at the scene on County Road 19 in New Alexandria, they were met with flames shooting from the detached garage.

New Alexandria Fire Department Chief Jay Peterson said the fire never spread to the house and was contained to the garage. On arrival, officials could see it coming through the roof of the garage.

Inside the garage, the fire damaged just about everything, including several vehicles. The garage itself is a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
