A fire at an uninhabited duplex in Mashall County results in what firefighters are calling a total loss.
Volunteer emergency responders received the call around 6:45 a.m. Sunday morning that a duplex located at 1002-1004 6th Street in Moundsville was on fire.
When firefighters from the Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Fire Chief Danny Holmes says the home was vacant at the time of the fire and has been for several years.
However, squatters are known to enter the property.
Water and gas utilities were disconnected from the property prior to the fire, according to Holmes. Electric service is also believed to be disconnected.
Around 25 firefighters from the Moundsville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as crews from the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, Glen Dale Volunteer Fire Department and Marshall County EMS.
No one was injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
