Two tractor trailers collided on Interstate 70 in Belmont County, leading to the death of one person.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident was caused by the backup of another, separate accident.

Officers at the scene say the earlier accident happened in the westbound travel lanes near mile marker 209, where a truck rolled over into the eastbound lanes.

As traffic started to backup, a tractor trailer collided with the rear of another stationary tractor trailer in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 204. This collision happened around 6:50 p.m., according to officers at the scene.

The driver of the striking semi was killed as a result of the crash.

Traffic was backed up for miles in both the east and westbound directions as emergency crews, including a medical helicopter, arrived at the scene.

The identity of the driver killed has not yet been released.
