A Carroll County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted in a shooting that occurred last year, resulting in the death of a Carrollton man.

A grand jury has charged deputy Jacob Baker with voluntary manslaughter after the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Robert Sikon III.

It happened following a traffic stop along State Route 171 in November 2019.

Sikon was a passenger in the car. He was shot in the back multiple times.

Carroll County officials have offered little comment on the case.

Canton City Prosecutor Jason Reese was appointed to handle the case. If convicted, Baker could face 3-to-11 years in prison.

Meanwhile, a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by family of Sikon against Baker, Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams and the county.
