Gov. Jim Justice announced today that West Virginia is leading the nation in the rate of COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration.

As of Sunday afternoon, West Virginia had administered 15,046 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, out of 16,575 doses received, which is a 90.78% administration rate.

According to Bloomberg.com’s COVID Vaccine Tracker, this is the highest administration rate of any state in the nation. Do note that the number of vaccines administered in West Virginia are updated as of 1 PM from the West Virginia National Guard, and these numbers are higher than the report by Bloomberg.com

Gov Justice said it’s thanks to West Virginia’s National Guard, health experts, DHHR, and the local partners that they’re able to be on top of vaccine distribution.

He says with the Moderna vaccine receiving FDA authorization on Friday, they will continue to get vaccines out as efficiently as possible. Justice then gives the power to the people, saying it’s up to them to answer the call and receive the vaccine as soon as they’re able to.
