A man wanted in a double stabbing that took place early Wednesday morning in Belmont County has been found dead near his home, according to police.
The Belmont County Sheriff’s Office received a call around 7 o’clock for the incident at a home on Uniontown-Flushing Road.
A search for the suspect — identified as 49-year old Edward Reed – intensified throughout the morning, and ended when the Ohio State Highway’s Patrol Aviation Unit found Reed dead near his home around 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The believe he died from a self-inflicted gun shot.
The two victims, Reed’s wife and daughter, were transported to the hospital. The victims underwent surgery as a result of their injuries.
Chief Deputy James Zusack says the sheriff’s office received a few complaints regarding Reed prior to this incident.
Detectives are trying to determine what led to the stabbings. They believe Reed’s mental health was an issue.
A dog was also stabbed and killed during the incident.
