The drowning of a 2-year-old has lead to an investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.
Marshall County Sheriff Bill Helms said 911 calls for a missing child starting coming in around 5 o’clock on Wednesday evening.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene on Tree Line Lane.
The child had gotten out of the house. After a short search, the 2-year-old was spotted about 85 yards from the house in a local pond.
First responders attempted to resuscitate the child, who was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.
Helms says the sheriff’s office has been conducting interviews with family members and others throughout the day.
It appears is was an accidental death, but the sheriff says it’s an active investigation that will continue over the coming days.
